A ruling in favor of Motorola in a German court may potentially block the sales of Apple mobile devices in that country. The ruling, which took place on December 9th in a Manheim state court, agreed that Apple’s iPad and iPod are infringing upon Motorola’s patents. The court granted an injunction against the products being sold in Germany.
As a result of winning the suit, Motorola has won an unspecified amount of monetary compensation. Damages have the potential to be quite high, as the court found that Apple has been breaking the patents since 2003.
With the upcoming holidays, German residents may be concerned about the availability of Apple products, but Apple claimed they will appeal the ruling immediately. Their spokesman for the European division of the company, Alan Hely, was confident that German customers will not have any problem finding Apple mobile products in stores for the holiday season.
